Author Guidelines
Author Guidelines
English and Tourism Studies (ETS)
These Author Guidelines summarize the mandatory requirements for manuscripts submitted to English and Tourism Studies (ETS). Please read carefully and ensure compliance prior to submission.
Quick links: Journal Homepage · Official Author Guidelines · Manuscript Template
1) Manuscript Length & Abstract
- Articles are normally 3,000–12,000 words or 5–20 pages with single spacing. Each article must include an abstract of no more than 250 words outlining the importance of the topic, the gap between theory and practice/expectation, objectives, method, findings, and conclusion.
- In the abstract, explicitly use bolded subheadings: Introduction, Objective, Method, Findings, and Conclusion.
- Provide 3–5 keywords below the abstract, set at 10 pt.
2) Peer Review & Authorship Information
- ETS operates a peer review process and promotes blind reviewing. To facilitate anonymity, do not display author names (no academic titles), institutional affiliations, or the corresponding author’s email address in the manuscript file prepared for review.
- Each contributor should include a short CV/biography (≤ 80 words) describing current position and activities (provided in a separate file or metadata, not in the blinded manuscript).
3) Formatting & Layout
- Write in English, using single and half-space as per journal convention, in Microsoft Word, Book Antiqua, 11 pt, page size A4. Margins: top 0.5 cm, bottom 2.75 cm, left 1.52 cm, right 1.52 cm.
- Headers: on even pages include the Journal name, Volume, Number, month, year, and page number. On odd pages, include the author(s) and brief article title.
- Place page numbers at the bottom-right. Footnotes should appear at the end of the text (not per-page).
- Use a one-column layout. Apply a first-line indent of 1 cm for paragraphs, except for (i) the first paragraph after the main title, and (ii) the first paragraph after any subheading.
- Block quotations should be indented 1 cm and set in 11 pt.
4) Article Structure (Research Articles)
- The recommended sequence is: Introduction (without heading/subheading), Method, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
- Title: fewer than 12 words, capitalized, centered, 11 pt.
- Introduction contains background, research context, literature review, and objective. Present in paragraphs (no bullets); approx. 15–20% of total length.
- Method describes research design, data sources, data collection, and data analysis; approx. 10–15%.
- Results and Discussion presents analysis to answer research questions and interprets findings with relevant theories/references; approx. 40–60%.
- Conclusion summarizes and restates the main findings.
5) Tables, Figures, and Presentation
- Use horizontal lines only in tables. Place the table number and title above the table.
6) Citations & References — IEEE Style Only
- Use IEEE citation style for all in-text citations and the reference list. In-text citations are numbered in square brackets in the order of first appearance, e.g.,
[1],[2], or ranges[3]–[5]. Reuse the same number for the same source throughout the text. - The reference list is titled References and is ordered by the in-text citation sequence (not alphabetically).
- Provide complete IEEE entries (authors' initials and last names, article/chapter title in quotation marks, journal or book title in italics, volume, number, pages, publisher (for books), year, and DOI/URL if available).
- At least 80% of references should be published within the last ten (10) years. Prioritize primary sources (journal articles, books, theses/dissertations, research reports). Journal articles should comprise at least 80% of all references.
- For direct quotations, include specific page numbers in the in-text citation where applicable, e.g.,
[7, p. 78]or[8, pp. 78–89]. - Examples (IEEE):
- Journal: J. Smith and A. Lee, “Tourist motivation in coastal destinations,” J. Tourism Stud., vol. 12, no. 3, pp. 145–160, 2021, doi: 10.xxxx/jts.2021.12345.
- Book: R. Brown, Applied Linguistics for Tourism, 2nd ed. London, U.K.: Routledge, 2020.
- Chapter: M. Chen, “ESP for hospitality,” in English for Specific Purposes in Tourism, P. Green, Ed. Singapore: Springer, 2019, pp. 25–48.
- Web: UNESCO, “Cultural heritage and sustainable tourism,” Accessed: Jan. 5, 2025. [Online]. Available: https://xxx
7) Proofs, Submission & Ethics
- Page proofs will be sent to the author’s account for correction and must be returned via the ETS system by the stated deadline: https://jurnal.tintaemas.id/index.php/ETS/index.
- Plagiarism: maximum similarity is ≤ 25% (Turnitin check). Manuscripts exceeding this threshold or showing unethical practices may be rejected.
8) Manuscript Template
Authors are strongly encouraged to download and use the official ETS Manuscript Template to ensure full compliance with formatting requirements.
