1) Who Should Apply

  • Academic or professional expertise in one or more JSH domains (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Economics, Political Science, History, Philosophy, Literature, Linguistics, Cultural Studies, Education).
  • Track record: recent peer-reviewed publications, completed reviews, or relevant professional experience.
  • Commitment to ethics: COPE-aligned practices, absence of conflicts of interest, and strict confidentiality.
  • Language: strong academic English; additional languages are a plus.

2) Roles at a Glance

Editors vs. Reviewers — Responsibilities
Role Key Responsibilities Time Commitment (typical)
Reviewer Provide double-blind, constructive, and timely reports; assess originality, rigor, clarity, and contribution; offer actionable recommendations. ~2–4 reviews/year; ~2–4 weeks per review cycle
Editor / Associate Editor Desk evaluation; select and invite reviewers; synthesize reports; communicate decisions; ensure ethics and scope fit. Variable by volume; ~2–6 manuscripts/quarter

3) Selection Criteria

  • Subject-area alignment and methodological breadth.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and/or professional practice.
  • Prior reviewing experience (helpful but not mandatory for early-career scholars).
  • Diversity and balance across regions, institutions, and specialties.

4) What We Expect

  • Timeliness: accept/decline invitations promptly; deliver reviews within the agreed timeline.
  • Quality & fairness: specific, courteous, and evidence-based comments that help authors improve.
  • Confidentiality: no sharing or reuse of manuscript content; strictly double-blind.
  • COI disclosure: declare any conflicts; recuse when necessary.
